What it is
Ground investigation using boreholes, in-situ tests, samples and laboratory interpretation to understand soil and rock conditions for engineering.
India direction
Indian infrastructure and building projects use project-specific geotechnical investigations under the relevant engineering standards and qualified specialists; drone or scan data can support planning but cannot replace subsurface testing.
Why it matters
Foundation, slope and earthworks decisions depend on what is below the surface, which remote imagery alone cannot establish.
